International
Teaching Assistants
ITA Testing and Training
The
IALC is responsible for providing English language assessment
of International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) at Washington State
University. The Graduate School, in conjunction with individual
departments,
is responsible for acting on the recommendations we make.
Our
assessment is based on observations of both linguistic and paralinguistic
features of the ITA's English language skills within the context
of an academic presentation. The recommendations we make do not
prevent international graduate students from receiving assistantship,
but may limit the scope of interaction they may have with undergraduate
students in particular contexts. Recommendations always include
a means for students to improve their skills. Click
here for ITA testing and training documents. You may also
find the schedule of evaluations by clicking
here.
The
IALC
also provides support to departments and individual students
seeking additional English language training through workshops,
existing programs and
custom programs.
